Mardo privacy policy
Last updated 4 November 2026. Mardo is a free, open source markdown browser for macOS, Windows, Linux, iPhone and iPad, made by Henry van den Broek.
The short version
Mardo has no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. The developer collects nothing about you or your use of the app.
What stays on your device
- Your bookmarks, history, saved pages and settings are stored in a local database on your device.
- Sign-in details you add for a website (cookies or tokens) and API keys for AI providers are kept in the system keychain, not in plain files.
- Pages you write or save are files on your device, in the Mardo folder in Files or wherever you choose.
What leaves your device, and only because you asked
- Pages you open. Mardo fetches the address you enter, from that website. That website sees the request as it would from any browser, and Mardo adds a request for markdown. Your sign-in details are sent only to the website they belong to.
- AI features. If you use the AI tools (summarize, ask, convert, edit), the text of the page you are using and your question are sent to the AI provider you chose, such as Anthropic or OpenAI or a server of your own, using your own key. Their privacy policies apply. With Apple Intelligence on supported devices, the request is handled by Apple's on-device model.
- LinkaGoGo bookmarks (optional). Bookmarks are stored only on your device by default. If you choose to store them in LinkaGoGo, they are exchanged with that service, under its privacy policy.
Nothing is sent to the developer.
